Martin stands by photos of his original model blown up to the actual size of the final model

The 2 rear engine mounts again fabricated in Perspex.

The front & back tapered triangular sections fixed in place. Note the central front mounting pole.

The model really starts to look like Narcissus! The hatchway's now in place & the clamp arm locators, previously made in 3mm Perspex, are now on either side of the model.

The master wooded moulds have been finished to a high gloss (in green) and the final engines sit ready to be fitted.

From the rear the cladding and detail finished with just the engine housings to add.

From the underside the 3 landing legs & opened undercarriage doors can be seen.

Just some of the 27 different kits used on the original Narcissus. All of which I was able to get!

The rear engine mounts in place against the central upright triangular rear pieces. Note the cut outs in the triangular sections to lighten the model & leave room for the interior.

The sliding rear escape hatch being fabricated in 3mm Perspex & ABS plastic section for strengthening.

Masking up the cockpit windows to keep them clean. Note the recesses cut in the rear side plates ready for the steering jet nozzles.

Underside kit-part detail and cladding being added in 20 thou "PlastiKard". Styrene plastic card was used as this was what I used on the original.

The front of "Narcissus" with almost all the final detail added.

A close-up of the final model showing the "Joltin' Jossie" transfer from the Airfix "Superfortress " aircraft kit that was converted to say "Miss Piggy" the nic-name we gave to the model because of its snout-like nose!

The central section of the model fabricated in 3mm Perspex (Plexiglass) Note the Perspex mounting pole in the centre. On the original these was metal.

Perspex plates are cut and fixed in place. Part of these sections will become the cabin windows.

The completed doorway (closed) with the interior of the hatchway ready to be put inside.

The basic model from the underside is ready to be clad. Note the holes cut where the engines will sit.

Beginning the top cladding by sticking a turned down Tank wheel into the round top recess.

The finished model stands on its stand which fits into the Perspex pole hole underneath.

The completed model from the underside.

The front mounting pole sits against the triangular plates that will become the series of elongated slots that run round the model.

The underside similarly cut to fit but with the front recess cut out into which goes a load of detail.

The nose lobe & top section (with the slots cut in) ready to glue in place. Also the kit parts & front jet tubes cut ready to fit.

The engines carved in Jelutong wood will eventually be moulded in fibreglass. Note the jet nozzles being fabricated in sections cut from round ABS pipe. These too will end up in fibreglass.

The main plastic strip lining is added to the model being very careful to match the original exactly.

Originally I had thought it would be a great idea to give "Narcissus" landing legs. Building this replica gave me the chance!
