Thunderbird 2

These photos show the two large TB2 models I built for the comics in various stages of completion. They were virtually identical to the TB2 model seen in the launch sequence of Thunderbirds as it is generally agreed this model was the best looking TB2!

The first model was originally carved in wood and polyurethane foam and covered in fibreglass, but it was very heavy so I also made a lighter model in fibreglass by taking moulds from the first model.

The model also featured a fully detailed pod interior (something the TV model on this scale did not have). On TV a larger section of Pod was built for scenes where vehicles were seen coming out of the pod, but I did not have the budget to do this so had to make do with a smaller detailed pod.

Relatively recent photos for the new T'Birds comic.

One of the final shots, this time used in a Poster Magazine, of TB2 lowering a fire fighting vehicle into the burning forest. TB2 almost came out of this unscathed!

Another final scene used in the comic again featuring the use of false perspective

This photo of TB2 involved me having to make the rescue aircraft hangar seen in the feature film "Thunderbirds Are Go!"

Here I'm seen setting up a shot of TB2 on Tracy Island. Most of my photos were taken on sets built outside in order to achieve natural lighting wherever possible.

Setting up a shot supposedly of TB2 in the Mojave desert. In fact we're on location in a quarry!

One of the final shots taken in the quarry made the front comic cover of issue 59.

tb4

Hiding the wires proved very difficult when filming outside with natural sunlight that moved all the time!

These preparations were for comic covers 47 and 49, see below
